Final Blog Post

This semester in Writing in the Disciplines was a great class. I enjoyed how the majority of this class was in group work, I was able to work together and meet new people I had never known before and create friendships. I usually am a shy and quiet person but in this class working in groups I was able to step out and talk to everyone and cooperate equally. I also liked how Dr. Kyburz always encouraged participation, at first the class was very quiet but toward the end of the semester we all got comfortable with one another to be able to speak in front of each other and work together. One assignment I really enjoyed were watching short police scenes and being able to write up a report from it. We worked in groups and we had to write everything in chronological order and distinguish what type of report was it. Based on the actions officer took it helped us determine the type. Being able to write a good report is an important factor in Law Enforcement, Dr Kyburz express this pretty much...

Something I was not expecting

This is something I was not expecting at all especially in the last week of classes before finals. Being the last week of classes and having a lot of final papers due this week and then came finals week after that. It all started on Tuesday night with a small headache then came Wednesday morning and I could barley think. My head felt like it was pounding so hard and It was super hot so I thought I was getting a fever.  It was barley possible to even write my papers those two days and I had one due that night and the Thursday, so it was somewhat rough. Thankfully I felt better today.

Warm Weather

As the cold weather drifts away in Chicago the warm weather is now coming. Yes it is last weeks of school and it is important to attend but this warm weather makes it hard too. It is the time where you can sleep with windows open and row down windows and sun roofs in cars . All one wants to do is spend the day outside and enjoy it and hang with friends but yet school is important and one has to sacrifice things.

Retiring Cop Gets Emotional During Last Radio Call

Changing the channel on the t.v and seeing this sounds super sad. A man retiring from his police job and speaking for the last time on the radio got him super emotional. This just proves that he loved what he did at his job because he will never get to do it again since he is retiring. The Sarasota Police Department honored Andre Jenkins in a ceremony for his 30 years of service he had done. He specifically said over police radio, " He will cherish  them for the rest of his life " referring to the good memories he had as a police officer. This just shows how dedicated a person is to their job if he really love it because when it comes for their time to retire they get certain feeling brought to them when they officially leave.  https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/peopleandplaces/retiring-cop-gets-emotional-during-last-radio-call/vi-AAwyPsA

Last Couple of Weeks of Semester

These last couple of weeks of the semester have been rough. This is the time where teachers make papers due and projects. For one, in Writing in the Disciplines the work load has not been a lot. In class we have been working on writing police reports based on mini clips we have been watching in class. First we have to figure of what type of police report it is, then we have to give details on everything that happened in the clip including actions officers took. This assignment was not bad because we were able to work in groups and work together on figuring out what should go into the report.

My Reaction to Bill Cosby's Sentence

After eating in the Den at school with some friends, We all had noticed that Bill Cosby had been found guilty with aggravated and sexually assaulting women. For me I'm just surprised on how fast they came to the agreement and found in guilty in court. I honestly thought it would have gone on for like another month or so. Him going to jail after everything they found that he did, he will just slowly die in jail since he is elderly as it is. Also I wonder what is going to happen with all his television shows he had?

Interrogations

Interrogations is a type of method used a lot by law enforcement when trying to solve a case. It has been used for many years now in police work. This method is used in order for police to gather information. In some cases police officers doing the interrogation may get carried away when it comes to trying to make the person confess what they did. Some may intimidate them and try to get as much as they can. Doing this the person being interrogated just wants to get out of there as fast as possible, which leads to false confessions being made after being harassed so much by police. It is super depressing the fact that police do certain things just to get what they need to solve a crime.  After reading the Reid Technique article, I had no idea what it was to begin with until I read it.  The Reid Technique is a simple method used when interrogating. It begins with a form of interview called the behavioral analysis. This is basically starts off with asking a series of questio...

President Trump and What He Says About Illegal Drugs

I do not know how many of you have seen this on television. The other day I saw on news that President Trump at a rally said he wants to give the death penalty to those who are drug dealers. To me I think he is taking the crime being done to a whole another level. I feel drug dealers should be punished but not to the point that they will get killed. He says that drug dealers destroy families and kill people because of there drugs. I am not saying that drug dealers do not do this but the people buying the drugs from them, may not know what is included in drugs but the person is choosing to buy it when they have the choice . I feel like drug dealers should be put into prison or helped out in order to get away from drugs instead of being sentenced to death. I feel the president just wants to get rid of everyone doing harm, but that is just me.

NYPD Officer Was a Intended Target of a Crude Bomb

Image
Looking up on the internet with what is going on with police I came across a fascinating article.  In Brooklyn a man named Victor Kingsley planted a bomb and severely injured a man named George Wray. Kingsley was charged with using a weapon of mass murder. This act was meant to target a New York Police Officer for doing his job but ended up in a tragic death of a unintended victim. Kingsley wanted to get revenge for what police did to him back in January where they arrested him for possession of weapons and disorderly conduct by unit in the 67th precinct.  It just amazes me that he would get revenge that way with a bomb. Like he should know what kind of consequences he would get. The fact that he wanted to get a police officer and ended up killing a innocent person which makes me mad cause that person was not expecting to get burned from bomb and die later that day.

Reflection On Group Project

From this group project I have learned that there are 4 types of police reports. The first one is basically just the officer recording the facts. An example of this would be incident report where officer just takes notes. Type two would have to be where officer records the facts and investigates.  An example of this would be a traffic violation where officer has to investigate everything that happened with accident. Type three report would have to be officer takes notes, investigates, and then takes action. For this an example would be a domestic violence report since officer would mostly likely take action and then try to find the person of violence causes. Lastly, type four is when police initiates involvement, records facts, investigates and then takes action in process. For this a great example would be arrest report since in type four you need probable cause to make an arrest when police are involved.

NYPD ignore more than 15,000 federal request from ICE

Being on social media and just randomly searching articles of what is going on with law enforcement. I came upon an article stating that NYPD ignored more than 15,000 federal request to detain immigrants last year. The thing that caught me the most is that in 2017 the request to detaining immigrants was 20 times higher than  80 request in 2016. People who have committed numerous crimes over 100 who are undocumented go straight to ICE. What the NYPD is trying to do is for victims to have trust in officers who are trying to help with people struggling with immigration status.  ICE basically is trying to stop what NYPD is doing by helping immigrants because they do not know what they are doing. These people are hopefully trying to get a better life to support family.
Reading Published Review:  I have read a published review about the documentary of Cartel Land on IMDB. There were a decent amount of similarities from my reflection to the film to the published review. This review mostly focuses on when there was a scene in the film were a family lost 13 members in their family due to the cartel not getting what thy want. Another similarity would have to be when this review said this would probably be one of the best films that came out in Sundance I would agree I enjoyed this film and seeing different sides coming from Arizona Border Patrol and Autodefensas.  But there were a couple of  differences from this peer review compared to my reflection. For one, the review talked about how when Autodefenas were in Mexico detaining cartel the Mexican Army comes in and takes away their weapons and does not even go for the cartel. But eventually they end up gaining control and over power Army with all Autodefensas and towns-people. The r...
1. The scene that stuck out the most would have to be when the Autodefensa de Michoacan wanted to talk to a certain man when he was driving with his family into town. The man’s daughter was basically screaming her lungs out saying that she wanted to kill herself. But the Autodefensas just wanted to ask him if he knew anything about cartels or anything with drugs in the town. It made me curious on why she said she wanted to kill herself when they only wanted to ask the man some questions that was all. This man was cooperating he just had trouble controlling his daughter and wife. This man’s wife did not want these men to take his husband in for questioning. This scene stuck out to me the most because it really showed emotion between characters during the film and how cartel families felt against the Autodefensa de Michoacan were just searching for cartels and killing them to get rid of them. I believe they went after this man because they suspected that he was part of cartel and there ...
